Blue Moon được phát hiện tại mỏ đá quý Cullinan, Nam Phi vào tháng 1/2014. Nó sẽ có mặt trong các phòng trưng bày tại Hong Kong, London và New York trước khi được bán đấu giá ở Geneva, Thụy Sĩ, vào ngày 11/11.
David Bennett, người đứng đầu phòng trang sức quốc tế của nhà đấu giá Sotheby nhận định, Blue Moon là viên đá quý có màu sắc và độ thuần khiết hoàn hảo.
