Not sure what cloud computing is, or how it can benefit your business? In this article, I will introduce you to the clouds, help you explain the terminology, and explains how your business can save time and money by using cloud hosting services such as Windows Azure, Amazon EC2 or Rackspace.Explore the cloud and cloud computingThe number of people using "the cloud" as a commonly used words when describing either the Internet or local network in conjunction with some type of service or application provider. When you hear the term "public clouds," thinking of the Internet; When you hear "private clouds," think of the local network of your company. Usually, the "cloud" by itself refers to the public cloud. The phrase "cloud computing" refers to the applications and services on the Internet or internal network that you often access, run, or manage through a Web browser. These services usually do not require you to install software on your computer. Here's another way to look at it: cloud computing is providing the computing as a service rather than a product. Instead of buying, installing and running a program on your local computer, the program runs on your computer supplier, and you pay a monthly or annual fee to access. You can find three main types of providers of cloud computing services.Software as a service (SaaS) provides, such as Google Docs, Microsoft Office 365, and Salesforce is the service designed for end users. As such, they represent the final results of the cloud.Platform as a service (PaaS) donation, such as Windows Azure, the services that the IT staff use in developing applications and providing application (SaaS) and web hosting for the end user. Basically, your IT staff is remote access to the virtual machine is hosted at our data center provider. PaaS providers typically provide a management operating system Windows or Linux, which means your business can devote more resources to developing and less to configure and maintain the operating system. The trade-off is that your IT staff will have less control of the basic operating system.Infrastructure as a service (IaaS) offering, such as Amazon EC2 and Rackspace Hosting, similar to PaaS providers, but they usually have your IT staff more control over the operating system. Although they generally do not provide operating system updates automatically, your business can use the infrastructure to develop and deploy applications on pretty much any platform or operating system.PaaS and IaaS offeringI will focus on PaaS and IaaS providers here. If you are familiar with the concept of virtual computing, you can think of these services as providing virtual machines (such as VirtualBox or VMware) via the Internet.PaaS and IaaS service providers provide access to the data center share of them, giving you the reliability, redundancy and security capabilities of an enterprise data center network worldwide. This helps you save time and money, because you don't need to buy and install onto the server from scratch, and you pay only for the resources you consume. This service is especially effective for short term projects, but they also provide scalable resources, as required. For example, within a few minutes, you can double the amount of memory that your site may need to meet a surge of end users. One of the limitations of using a cloud server is your data stored on the server of a different party. This arrangement could raise issues of privacy and security for companies that deal with sensitive data, but you can minimize the risks by using data encryption and select a server with cloud security certification and accreditation.
