Nhân ngày truyền thống ngành du lịch Việt Nam (9/7), ông Hồ Anh Tuấn, Thứ trưởng Bộ Văn hóa, Thể thao và Du lịch đã có những đánh giá về sự phát triển của du lịch trong 6 tháng đầu năm: "Mặc dù phải đối mặt với nhiều khó khăn, thách thức, du lịch Việt Nam gần đây vẫn duy trì sự tăng trưởng ổn định về lượng khách và tổng thu từ khách du lịch".
Năm 2013, khách quốc tế đến Việt Nam đạt 7,57 triệu lượt, khách du lịch nội địa đạt 32,5 triệu lượt, tổng thu từ khách du lịch đạt 200.000 tỉ đồng. Trong 6 tháng đầu năm 2014, khách quốc tế đến Việt Nam tăng 21%, khách du lịch nội địa đạt tăng 7%, tổng thu từ khách du lịch tăng 22% so với cùng kỳ năm 2013.
"Du lịch Việt Nam đã hoàn thành trước hai năm mục tiêu đề ra trong Chiến lược phát triển du lịch Việt Nam tới năm 2020, tầm nhìn tới năm 2030. Theo đó năm 2015 Việt Nam phấn đấu đón được 7,2 đến 7,5 triệu lượt khách quốc tế và 28 đến 30 triệu lượt khách nội địa", ông Tuấn phát biểu.
