Theo báo cáo của UBND Tp HCM, chín tháng đầu năm, kinh tế thành phố tiếp tục giữ vững tốc độ tăng trưởng cao, tổng sản phẩm nội địa đạt 155.600 tỷ đồng, tăng 11.7%. Đây là mức tăng cao nhất trong vòng 4 năm qua. Trong đó tỷ lệ tăng cao nhất thuộc về 4 ngành dịch vụ: tài chính-ngân hàng, du lịch, vận tải cảng và bưu chính viễn thông. Ngoài ra sản xuất nông nghiệp, công nghiệp, huy động vốn đầu tư cho phát triển đề tăng. Về đầu tư trong nước, đã cấp giấy chứng nhận đăng ký kinh doanh cho 12.459 doanh nghiệp với tổng số vốn đăng ký tương đương 6 tỷ đô la. Số lượng doanh nghiệp tăng gấp 3 lần. Đặc biệt với 1.329 tỷ USD vốn đầu tư trực tiếp nước ngoài, thanh phố HCM dẫn đầu cả nước trong lĩnh vực này.

Tata, tập đoàn kinh tế lớn của Ấn độ đang có kế hoach đầu tư khách sạn tai TPHCM, bên cạnh những dự án về sắt thép, hoá chất và viễn thông tại VN. Thông tin này được ông Alan Sosling, Giám đốc điều hành công ty Tata Sons cho biết tại cuộc gặp với chủ tịch UBND tpHCM vào cuối tuần trước.
Theo ông Alan Sosling, kế hoạch xây dựng khách sạn tại TpHCM nằm trong chiến lược đẩy mạnh đầu tư của tập đoàn Tata ở VN. Hiện Tata đã ký hợp tác với Tổng công ty thép VN để nghiên cứu và khai thác mỏ thép tại Hà Tĩnh. Hai bên sẽ thành lập 1 liên doanh với vốn đâù tư 3,5 ty đôla Mỹ, trong đó có việc xây nhà máy thép công suất 4,5 triệu tăn/ năm. Ngòai ra tập đoàn này cũng đang đề xuất với chính phủ kế hoạch đầu tư dự án hóa chất tại khu vực phía Bắc.

Đây là lần thứ hai PATA đã hợp tác với Đại học Quốc Gia Hà Nội để mở các lớp đào tạo du lịch cho dân làng hai xã Tà Phìn và Lào Chai ở Sapa. Các lớp học này nằm trong khuôn khổ một dự án có thời hạn hai năm bắt đầu từ tháng 8 năm 2012 với sự tham gia trên tinh thần tự nguyện của thầy trò và cựu học sinh ĐHQGHN.
Mục tiêu của dự án là nhằm tăng cường năng lực các dân tộc ít người trong vùng, các doanh nghiệp nhỏ, chính quyền các xã. Dự án cũng cùng làm việc với thanh niên, phụ nữ và lãnh đạo cộng đồng nhằm tìm ra các giải pháp để cùng nhau làm giảm bớt các tác động không tốt mà ngành du lịch đôi khi mang lại.

Công tác xóa đói giảm nghèo ở Việt Nam đã đạt được những thành tựu vô cùng to lớn. Trong vòng hai mươi năm qua số người nghèo đã giảm từ gần 60% xuống còn 20.7% dân số.
Tuy nhiên sự bất ổn của kinh tế vĩ mô, những tác động từ bên ngoài, những bất bình đẳng trong tăng trưởng đã làm nảy sinh nhiều thách thức mới. Điều cần thiết phải làm sao cho nhiều người được hưởng lợi từ tăng trưởng kinh tế, bằng cách đầu tư nhiều hơn cho các vùng nông thôn, các doanh nghiệp vừa và nhỏ.
