Mặc khác sự tham gia của các vị phụ huynh và các tổ chức kinh tế xã hội trong các công tác hướng nghiệp là chưa nhiều, từ đó dẫn đến việc lựa chọn ngành nghề của các bạn học sinh gặp rất nhiều khó khăn, lung túng và bỡ ngỡ. Theo các văn bản hướng dẫn của bộ giáo dục và đào tạo, các lớp 10,11,12 đều có công tác hướng nghiệp, nhưng phải đến gần các kì thi tốt nghiệp trung học phổ thông và đại học thì việc hướng nghiệp mới được tập trung nhiều hơn, vì vậy chúng ta thường hay có cảm giác, các trường chỉ hướng nghiệp cho các bạn học sinh vào mỗi mùa thi.

Theo các giáo viên phổ thông, các hoạt động hướng nghiệp được tổ chức trong thời gian qua đặc nặng về nội dung tuyển sinh hơn là hướng nghiệp.
- Để đẩy mạnh và tăng cường chất lượng giáo dục hướng nghiệp ở các trường phổ thông, tôi nghĩ rằng chúng ta nên có nhiều giải pháp đồng bộ, cần có những hệ thống thông tin chính thống về nội dung và về hướng nghiệp từ bộ giáo dục đưa vào trong giáo trình và cập nhật hơn. Thứ 2 nửa, chúng ta cần phải tăng thời lượng hướng nghiệp cho các em học sinh ở trong các trường phổ thông, và chúng ta nên làm công tác hướng nghiệp từ sớm hơn, thậm chí là ngay từ đầu nhựng năm cấp 2.
