Đối với Việt Nam, điều kiện kinh tế xã hội nước ta có nhiều khác biệt so với Hoa Kỳ, do đó để học tập kinh nghiệm của hệ thống giáo dục đại học Hoa Kỳ không phải dễ dàng. Tuy hệ thống giáo dục đại học đổi mới của chúng ta về hình thức có đôi nét gần với mô hình của Hoa Kỳ, nhưng vận hành hệ thống giáo dục đại học của chúng ta còn rất kém năng động so với hệ thống giáo dục đại học Hoa Kỳ.
