– Nhà văn Tô Hoài tên thật là Nguyễn Sen, sinh ngày 27 tháng 9 năm 1920 tại thị trấn Nghĩa Đô, Tử Liêm, Hà Nộ
Đảng viên Đảng Cộng sản Việt Nam có bằng Cao đẳng tiểu học, Hội viên sáng lập Hội Nhà văn Việt Naln 1957.
Tô Hoài tham gia cách mạng tứ trước Cách mạng tháng Tám ( 1945) trong Hội ái hữu công nhân, Hội Văn hoá Cứu quốc.
Từ 1945 – 1958 làm phóng viên rồi Chủ nhiệm báo Cứu quốc Việt Bắc.
Từ 1957 – 1958 Tổng thư ký Hội Nhà văn Việt Nam.
Từ 1958 – 1980 Phó Tổng thư ký Hội Nhà văn Việt Nam.
Từ 1986 – 1996 Chủ tịch Hội Văn nghệ Hà Nội.
