Đọc là một kỹ năng quan trọng và rất cần thiết trong việc dạy và học ngoại ngữ nói chung và tiếng Anh nói riêng. Đối với học sinh lớp 9 bậc THCS, thông qua việc đọc hiểu các đoạn văn theo chủ điểm của từng bài các có thể nắm bắt được nhiều thông tin cần thiết cho việc trau dồi thêm ngôn ngữ tiếng Anh. Nhờ các đoạn văn ngắn này các em có thể kiểm tra lại các dữ kiện có liên quan chặt chẽ với những hoạt động trong cuộc sống thường ngày. Hoặc từ các bài khóa các em có thể tìm ra câu trả lời cho những câu hỏi hoặc làm sáng tỏ một vấn đề nào đó. Nếu học sinh không phát huy được kỹ năng đọc hiểu thì các em rất khó tiếp thu và ghi nhớ được thông tin một cách bền vững và lâu dài. Trong quá trình thực hiện nhiệm vụ giảng dạy tiếng Anh tại trường THCS tôi nhận thấy rằng kỹ năng đọc hiểu tiếng Anh của học sinh nhìn chung còn hạn chế. Vì vậy để chuyển đổi được những thông tin trong các bài đọc hiểu thành kiến thức chung cho học sinh trong cuộc sống thường ngày chưa thật sự đạt hiệu quả cao. Điều này ảnh hưởng không tốt đến qúa trình học tiếng Anh của học sinh. Để giải quyết được những khó khăn này giáo viên cần phải quan tâm đến những thủ thuật, phương pháp dạy đọc hiểu tiếng Anh cho học sinh đặc biệt là học sinh lớp 9. Từ những lý do trên tôi xin được đưa ra đề tài “Một số kinh nghiệm rèn luyện kỹ năng đọc hiểu tiếng Anh cho học sinh lớp 9 bậc THCS.”
