Cùng với việc sử dụng nhiều và không đúng cách các loại hoá chất trong nuôi trồng thuỷ sản, thì các thức ăn dư lắng xuống đáy ao, hồ, lòng sông làm cho môi trường nước bị ô nhiễm các chất hữu cơ, làm phát triển một số loài sinh vật gây bệnh và xuất hiện một số tảo độc.
