Vấn nạn kẹt xe hiện nay tại các thành phố lớn điển hình là ở thành phố hồ chí minh và hà nội là một vấn đề cực kỳ nhức nhối cần phải giải quyết có lộ trình rõ ràng từng bước,theo tôi cần thực hiện các giải pháp sau đây:

Thứ nhất, triển khai ngay các giải pháp đồng bộ, tạo bước đột phá để giải quyết nạn tắc nghẽn giao thông. Phát triển các loại xe công cộng, trong đó chú ý ưu tiên các loại hình vận tải tận dụng không gian trên cao và trong lòng đất (như hệ thống Metro). Nâng cấp, hiện đại hóa hệ thống hạ tầng kỹ thuật, xây dựng gấp các trục đường lớn (xuyên tâm, hướng tâm, tiếp tuyến, vành đai, đường nối các đô thị vệ tinh), tăng cường các cầu vượt sông tại Hà Nội và TP.HCM, triển khai các biện pháp nhằm hạn chế số điểm “giao cắt” giữa các dòng phương tiện, như: lập thể hoá và xây dựng cầu vượt ở các ngã tư lớn (thay vì các vòng xoay), phân luồng hợp lý cho các dòng xe…

Nâng cao hiệu quả hệ thống biển báo, đèn GT, áp dụng hệ thống GT thông minh. Kết hợp khoa học và chặt chẽ giữa kiến trúc và GT, xây dưng các TP vệ tinh, kéo dãn, giảm áp lực mật độ dân cư khu vực trung tâm TP. Triển khai các giải pháp: Phân bổ thời gian đi làm để giảm áp lực giờ cao điểm, tăng phí giao thông đối với xe cơ giới đi vào thành phố trong giờ cao điểm (đã áp dụng thành công ở Nga, Pháp), khuyến khích đi xe hai bánh, đánh thuế người sử dụng ôtô cá nhân…Theo tôi cần thực hiện 6 giải pháp sau đây:
