Với đặc điểm vi trí địa lý, kinh tế là cửa ngõ phía Tây của Thành phố Hồ Chí Minh. Việc thành lập chi nhánh ngân hàng Xuất Nhập Khẩu Việt Nam trên địa bàn quận 6 là rất cần thiết. Trên cơ sở nhận thức đó, ngân hàng Xuất Nhập Khẩu Việt Nam Chi nhánh Bình Phú được thành lập theo Quyết đinh số 313/2008 ngày 26/08/2008 của Hội đồng quản trị. Đến đầu tháng 11 năm 2008, chi nhánh đã chính thức đi vào hoạt động phục vụ khách hàng.
