Giá gạo xuất khẩu của Việt Nam năm 2014 biến động khá mạnh trong bối cảnh bị cạnh tranh khốc liệt. Gần như trong suốt cả năm 2014, giá gạo Thái Lan rẻ hơn gạo Việt Nam – điều hiếm thấy trong lịch sử do Thái Lan có nguồn cung dồi dào, và đồng baht Thái nhiều giai đoạn mất giá mạnh khiến giá gạo Thái quy ra đô la Mỹ trở nên rẻ hơn.

Tuy nhiên, theo Bộ Công thương, năm 2014 cũng ghi nhận việc xuất khẩu được khối lượng gạo lớn sang Philippines, Malaysia và Indonesia, đồng thời vẫn duy trì tốc độ xuất khẩu sang Trung Quốc kể cả trong giai đoạn căng thẳng ở Biển Đông.

Sau khi giảm giá trong quí 1 (372 đô la Mỹ/tấn với loại 5% tấm vào trung tuần tháng 3), giá gạo xuất khẩu của Việt Nam khởi sắc trở lại từ khi ký được hợp đồng lớn 800.000 tấn với Philippines.

Xuất khẩu gạo qua đường mậu biên sang Trung Quốc bị gián đoạn trong khoảng thời gian ngắn khoảng 5-6 tuần (từ cuối tháng 5 đến đầu tháng 7) do chính sách kiểm soát chặt chẽ gạo nhập khẩu trên toàn biên giới của nước này. Nhìn chung xuất khẩu sang Trung Quốc năm 2014 vẫn tiến triển tốt, song tiến độ xuất khẩu sang thị trường này năm 2014 không còn đều đặn như những năm trước.
