Hiện nay ở các trường trung học phổ thông, giáo viên đã đưa các phương pháp dạy học tích cực vào quá trình dạy và học của mình, chẳng hạn như dạy học kiến tạo, dạy học giải quyết vấn đề, dạy học khám phá, dạy học hợp tác, ... Chúng có cùng nổi bật lên ý tưởng là dạy học cách phát hiện vấn đề và dạy học cách giải quyết vấn đề. Vì thế việc giáo viên bồi dưỡng năng lực phán đoán cho học sinh cũng nhằm hướng các em tiếp cận với các phương pháp tích cực kể trên cũng như tiếp cận với việc phát triển năng lực toán học. Song song với việc rèn luyện năng lực phán đoán cho học sinh, giáo viên rèn luyện lập luận có căn cứ cho người học nữa. Hai hoạt động này có quan hệ chặt chẽ với nhau. Nếu phán đoán mà không có căn cứ thì thì thiếu độ tin cậy và không được thừa nhận. Ngược lại, nếu lập luận có lăn cứ mà người học không trải qua phán đoán thì dẫn đến tình trạng dạy học mang tính áp đặt, một chiều.
