Thực trạng khắc nghiệt

Một bài báo cáo của ACCA năm 2012 đã nêu ra những sự chỉ trích từ người dùng tại Anh, Mỹ và Canada. Cụ thể hơn, hầu hết những người tham gia khảo sát cho rằng bản báo cáo tài chính hàng năm là quá dài, thiên về phân tích quá khứ, quá phức tạp (về tiêu chuẩn báo cáo và các yêu cầu pháp lý) và quá chung chung.

Tuy nhiên, ở Việt Nam, thực trạng này lại khá khác biệt. Mặc dù không có nghiên cứu chính thức nào được thông qua, tuy nhiên tính minh bạch vẫn thường được coi là vấn đề quan trọng nhất trong các báo cáo hàng năm. Có không ít sự nghi ngờ về giá trị của tài liệu này đối với các nhà đầu tư, hoặc người đọc. Tại Việt Nam, thị trường tài chính thường trao đổi thông tin qua các tin truyền miệng hoặc tin đồn hơn là báo cáo từ các công ty. Hiện trạng này đã tạo ra mảnh đất màu mỡ cho một số tổ chức tiếp tục thống trị thị trường do sự thiếu minh bạch, đơn cử như bằng cách thuê các kiểm toán viên nghiệp dư đóng dấu xác thực, hoặc hối lộ công ty tư vấn để làm gia tăng sự hài lòng từ khách hàng.

Một vấn đề đáng quan tâm khác là có rất nhiều công ty vẫn đang còn mơ hồ trong việc chuẩn bị bản báo cáo tài chính thường niên. Dữ liệu trong các bản báo cáo này vẫn cònrất nghèo nàn, thiếu hoặc không đầy đủ các thông tin như quản lý rủi ro, đề nghị hợp tác hay quan hệ với các nhà đầu tư.
