Trước đây nhà thờ đã là tu viện chính của dòng tu nữ tử Bác Ái Thánh Vinh Sơn (từ năm 1940 – 1943). Sau năm 1975, ngoài nhà nguyện và hai dãy tu viện, các cơ sở khác đã được sử dụng cho các mục đích công ích. Ở đây họ đã nuôi dưỡng rất nhiều trẻ em mồ côi và dạy nghề cho các em như dệt, thêu, vẽ tranh, v.v..để các em trở thành những người có ích cho xã hội.
