AI có rất nhiều ứng dụng, trải rộng trên nhiều lĩnh vực, như là nghiên cứu khoa học, thống kê tài chính, kinh tế, vận hành công nghiệp, chế tạo và sản xuất… Hiện nay AI đang được ứng dụng mạnh mẽ trong lĩnh vực giao tiếp, là một trong những lĩnh vực quan trọng nhất được nghiên cứu và phát triển từ thập niên 1990s (dn). Các đặc điểm của Artificial Intelligence in Communication (AIIC) bao gồm connecting with human, learning human behavior, searching information, analysis input and output, providing services, and doing human’s commands. Trong đó, connecting with human bao gồm các phương thức giao tiếp với con người, tiếp nhận dữ liệu và hồi đáp. Các phương thức giao tiếp này gồm có : giao tiếp bằng giọng nói; giao tiếp bằng màn hình, bàn phím, qua tin nhắn, câu lệnh; giao tiếp bằng cử chỉ, hình ảnh; và giao tiếp bằng cách trực tiếp nhận các xung thần kinh từ não bộ (dn). Trong đó thông dụng nhất là giao tiếp bằng màn hình, qua tin nhắn, câu lệnh. Theo đó, các thông tin sẽ được hiển thị trên một màn hình máy tính, con người ghi các câu lệnh để nhập dữ liện cho máy tính qua bàn phím hoặc chuột, máy tính xử lý, gửi trả kết quả trên màn hình.
