Chúng ta đang ở đường Võ Văn Kiệt hướng đến Hầm Thủ Thiêm hay còn có tên gọi khác là đường hầm sông Sài Gòn. Hầm Thủ Thiêm được hoàn thiện vào năm 2011 với tổng chiều dài 1.490 m, công trình được đánh giá là hầm vượt hiện đại nhất Đông Nam Á. Hầm được xây dựng nhằm mục đích phục vụ giao thông trên tuyến Đại lộ Đông - Tây nối Quận 2 và Quận 1, nằm dưới lòng sông Sài Gòn cách mặt nước 24m và mang dáng dấp như một chiếc võng. Ngoài việc giải toả áp lực cho cầu Sài Gòn, tuyến đường mới qua hầm rút ngắn thời gian từ trung tâm thành phố về các tỉnh miền Tây lẫn miền Đông, tạo nền tảng phát huy giao thương liên tỉnh. Hầm Thủ Thiêm góp phần lớn trong việc tạo thành mạng lưới giao thông khá hoàn chỉnh ở phía đông, giảm áp lực cho giao thông trung tâm và là động lực phát triển Khu đô thị mới Thủ Thiêm.
Qua khỏi Hầm Thủ Thiêm, chúng ta hướng đến khu vực Quận 2 – là một quận nội thành của Thành phố Hồ Chí Minh. Quận 2 là quận mới đô thị hóa, nơi có Khu đô thị mới Thủ Thiêm trong tương lai gần là trung tâm tài chính thương mại mới của Thành phố Hồ Chí Minh.
