Theo dự báo, khả năng khai thác và sử dụng các nguồn năng lượng sơ cấp ở Việt Nam đến năm 2050 sẽ có các chỉ số cụ thể như sau: Sản lượng Than đá là từ 95 – 100 triệu tấn/năm (trong đó phần lớn dành cho phát điện); dầu thô khoảng 21 triệu tấn/ năm (chủ yếu dùng để cung cấp cho các nhà máy lọc dầu trong nước); khí đốt khoảng 16,5 tỷ m3/năm (trong đó có khoảng 14 – 15 tỷ m3 dành cho phát điện); thủy điện khoảng 60 tỷ kWh/năm; nguồn năng lượng tái tạo khoảng 3500 – 4000 MW.

According to forecasts, the ability to harness and use the primary sources of energy in Vietnam to 2050 will have specific indicators as follows: coal production is from 95-100 million tons/year (of which the majority are for power generation); crude oil some 21 million tons/year (mainly used to supply the domestic oil refineries); about 16.5 billion m3 of gas per year (of which there are about 14-15 billion m3 for generator); hydroelectric power to about 60 billion kWh/year; renewable energy sources are about 3500-4000 MW.
