- CTNH dạng lỏng và dạng rắn: phải được thu gom ngay tại nơi phát sinh, nếu số lượng ít có thể đựng trong dụng cụ chứa có nắp đậy kín và dụng cụ chứa phải được nhận dạng bằng nhãn “ RÁC THẢI NGUY HẠI ”. Khu vực lưu trữ chất thải nguy hại chung trong nhà máy phải được che chắn, khóa bảo vệ.
- Áp dụng các biện pháp an toàn cần thiết để tránh gây sự cố cho con người và ảnh hưởng đến sản xuất, phải đảm bảo CTNH không rơi vãi làm ô nhiễm môi trường.

- CTNH được lưu chứa tạm thời tại nơi phát sinh trong bao bì thích hợp và an toàn (chứa trong bao màu đen đối với chất thải rắn nguy hại, chứa trong can hoặc thùng đối với các loại chất thải lỏng nguy hại).
- Bao bì, dụng cụ thu gom và lưu giữ CTNH tại nơi phát sinh phải có các thông tin rõ ràng và dễ nhận dạng (bằng cách dán nhãn như mẫu SSOP.08.BM.05) để tránh nhầm lẫn với CTKNH.
