Những người theo quan điểm chống amiăng đã viện dẫn việc Cơ quan nghiên cứu Ung thư Quốc tế (IARC) thuộc Tổ chức Y tế thế giới đã xếp các loại Amiăng vào nhóm 1- nhóm các chất có khả năng gây ung thư ở người làm căn cứ đề nghị cấm sử dụng amiăng trắng trong sản xuất tấm lợp ở Việt Nam. Kiến nghị đó là phiến diện vì cùng xếp nhóm 1 với amiăng trắng còn có 110 chất và hợp chất khác. Vì vậy vấn đề cần quan tâm là làm sao kiểm soát được quá trình khai thác, gia công, chế biến amiăng trắng. Các quá trình này đều thực hiện dưới sự kiểm soát của con người, do vậy amiăng trắng vẫn có thể tiếp tục được sử dụng trong đời sống của nhiều nước.
