6. Tính đến cuối tháng 7 2014, Thái Lan đã vượt qua một số nước trong khu vực ASEAN để trở thành nước nhập khẩu cá tra lớn nhất của Việt Nam do nhu cầu tiêu thụ trong nước gia tăng. Theo số liệu của Tổng cục Hải quan, xuất khẩu cá tra đến Thái lan trong 7 tháng đầu năm 2014 đạt đến 27,98 triệu đô la, tăng 40% so với cùng kỳ năm ngoái. Mặc dù trong năm tháng đầu, những biến đổi về chính trị của Thái lan có ít nhiều ảnh hưởng đến tăng trưởng kinh tế, song lượng nhập khẩu cá tra vẫn tăng mạnh.
Theo thông tin từ Trung Tâm thương mại quốc tế, 7 tháng đầu năm, Thái Lan nhập khẩu 10.070 tấn fillê cá tra và cá tra đông lạnh, trong đó cá tra fillê được nhập khẩu từ Việt Nam, chiếm 99,8% tương đương 10.047 tấn, còn cá tra đông lạnh nhập khẩu từ Jordan.
