QA là viết tắt của Quality Assurance (Engineer) là kỹ sư Đảm bảo chất lượng. Công việc chính của những người làm bộ phận này, trước hết là thiết lập và xây dựng sổ tay và các quy trình về các hệ thống quản lý chất lượng tại nơi đang áp dụng. Ví dụ: hệ thống ISO 9001, tiêu chuẩn ASME, vv…
Thí dụ điển hình, quy trình hệ thống chất lượng của một công ty đang áp dụng theo tiêu chuẩn ISO 9001:2008 thông thường sẽ được chia làm 4 cấp độ như sau:
Cấp I: Sổ tay chất lượng trong đó viết đầy đủ chính sách chất lượng, mục tiêu chất lượng của công ty.
Cấp II: Quy trình hệ thống chất lượng.
Cấp III: Các quy trình áp dụng hay hướng dẫn công việc cho sản phẩm hoặc chi tiết gia công đang gia công.
Cấp IV: Các biểu mẫu, rất quan trọng vì đây là bằng chứng để người quản lý chất lượng có thể dùng nó truy tìm các điểm không phù hợp của hệ thống hay truy tìm nguồn gốc sản phẩm, vv….

Ngoài ra người làm QA còn có các công việc, như:
– Đánh giá nội bộ hệ thống Quản lý chất lượng hàng năm của công ty.
– Tham gia các hoạt động cải tiến sản xuất.
– Phối hợp với bên sản xuất khi có khách hàng đánh giá công ty
– Lưu hồ sơ và các chứng nhận năng lực theo quy trình và quy định ( ví dụ: các báo cáo hồ sơ hoàn thành dự án)
– Đánh giá nhà cung cấp, thầu phụ thực hiện các công việc tại của công ty ( nếu có)
– Thực hiện việc huấn luyện cho các bộ phận liên quan về việc áp dụng hệ thống, tiêu chuẩn và quy trình cũng như những thay đổi của hệ thống và quy trình cho phù hợp với yêu cầu thực tế.
