Kỷ niệm 1970 năm khởi nghĩa Hai Bà Trưng ( 40- 2010), lễ hội đền Hai Bà Trưng 2010 vừa được long trọng tổ chức tại Khu du lịch Đền thờ Hai Bà Trưng, xã Mê Linh, huyện Mê Linh, Hà Nội - quê hương của Hai Bà xưng Vương , lập đô sau khi đã đánh tan giặc ngoại xâm.
Lễ hội được tổ chức hàng năm là một hoạt động văn hóa tín ngưỡng nhằm tôn vinh công đức của hai vị nữ anh hùng dân tộc Trưng Trắc - Trưng Nhị và giáo dục truyền thống yêu nước cho thế hệ trẻ
Trong tâm thức người Việt, hình ảnh Hai Bà Trưng cưỡi voi dẫn đầu đoàn quân xung trận, đánh tan quân nhà Hán dành độc lập dân tộc sau hơn hai thế kỉ bị phong kiến nước ngoài đô hộ .một kỳ tích trong lịch sử dân tộc Việt Nam. Người Việt Nam xem Hai Bà là anh hùng của dân tộc nên đã lập đền thờ ở nhiều nơi.
Lễ hội năm nay được mở đầu bằng lễ rước kiệu vua, voi chiến, cùng các lễ vật từ đình Hạ Lôi đến Đền thờ Hai Bà Trưng, với sự tham gia của hàng trăm người dân xã Mê Linh cùng các đội lễ tế truyền thống. Nhiều hoạt động nghệ thuật, vui chơi, đã diễn ra trong lễ hội như múa rồng, múa sư tử, biểu diễn hát chèo, thi đấu vật, đánh đu, đập niêu đất....
cùng với người dân địa phương, hàng nghìn du khách trong, ngoài nước đã về đây tụ hội, dâng hương tưởng nhớ công lao chống giặc giữ nước của Hai Bà. Lễ hội cũng là một trong những sự kiện quan trong mở đầu chuỗi hoạt động văn hóa lễ hội kỉ niệm 1000 năm Thăng Long - Hà Nội
