- Văn hóa Thái Lan chịu ảnh hưởng sâu sắc từ các tư tưởng đạo Phật - tôn giáo chính thức ở đất nước này và từ nền sản xuất phụ thuộc vào nguồn nước. Có thể thấy rõ hai điểm trên qua các ngày lễ hội. Trong văn hóa ứng xử, người Thái tỏ rõ sự sùng đạo, tôn kính hoàng gia và trọng thứ bậc cũng như tuổi tác.
- Đối với phụ nữ, bộ trang phục căn bản là một cái phasin, tức là cái váy gồm hai hay ba mảnh vải may thành hình ống được quấn quanh lưng và gấp mép ở rốn. Đàn ông mặc quần là những dảy vải được buộc vào nhau ở giữa hai chân và vòng quanh hông. Cả đàn ông và phụ nữ đều mang cái túi bằng vải đeo trên vai để đựng đồ dùng cá nhân. Phasin có thể để trơn, không thêu thùa gì, nhưng thường thì chúng có họa tiết và màu sắc theo những kiểu cách phân biệt theo mỗi vùng hay mỗi nhóm sắc tộc. Thường thì phần dưới thấp trong trang phục được thêu thùa rất nhiều.
- Sau Thế chiến thứ Hai, chính phủ khuyến khích việc chuyển sang ăn mặc hoàn toàn theo kiểu phương Tây. Giờ đây phasin bị coi như trang phục của người nghèo và những người vùng quê. Người ta chỉ còn mặc nó ở nơi thôn quê hay tại các đám rước trong các ngày lễ hội.
