Theo thống kê của UBND Thành phố, trên địa bàn hiện có 3.300 nguồn thải của các cơ sở sản xuất, thương mại, dịch vụ nhưng mới có 1.140 cơ sở xây dựng hệ thống xử lý môi trường đạt chuẩn. Hiện mới có khoảng 80% nguồn thải có lưu lượng từ 50m3/ngày đêm được kiểm soát. Còn hơn 2.000 cơ sở chưa có hệ thống xử lý môi trường hoặc có nhưng chưa đạt chuẩn vẫn ngày đêm thải ra môi trường hàng ngàn tấn chất thải, nước thải độc hại.
