Cơ quan Quản lý Thực phẩm và Dược phẩm (FDA) đang triển khai kế hoạch tình nguyện với ngành công nghiệp để pha ra việc sử dụng thuốc kháng sinh nhất định để tăng cường sản xuất lương thực.
Kháng sinh được bổ sung vào thức ăn chăn nuôi hoặc nước uống của gia súc, lợn, gia cầm và động vật sản xuất thực phẩm khác để giúp họ tăng cân nhanh hơn hoặc sử dụng thức ăn ít hơn để đạt được trọng lượng
