Ngân hàng là các tổ chức tài chính cung cấp một danh mục các dịch vụ thanh toán và thực hiện nhiều chức năng tài chính nhất so với bất kỳ tổ chức kinh doanh nào trong nền kinh tế.Tuy nhiên dưới góc độ nghiên cứu của một nhà quản lý,chúng ta có thể đưa ra khái niệm chung như sau :
“Ngân hàng là loại hình tổ chức tín dụng được thực hiện toàn bộ hoạt động ngân hàng và các hoạt động kinh doanh khác có liên quan. Theo tính chất và mục tiêu hoạt động, các loại hình ngân hàng gồm ngân hàng thương mại, ngân hàng phát triển, ngân hàng đầu tư, ngân hàng chính sách,ngân hàng hợp tác và các ngân hàng khác”.
