Lụt thường xảy ra ở một số địa điểm trên đảo Phú Quốc chủ yếu là do nước chảy tràn từ các dòng suối. Mực nước suối liên quan chặt chẽ với lượng mưa trên đảo. Mực nước thấp nhất được ghi nhận vào giữa mùa khô( tháng 3) và mực nước cao nhất vào giữa mùa mưa ( cuối tháng 8, đầu tháng 9). Sự chênh lệch của mực nước hàng năm giữa mùa khô và mùa mưa là khá cao, ví dụ, tại Bến Tràm là 382 cm và tại Cầu Trắng là 477cm
Hằng năm vào mùa mưa thường xảy ra lụt cục bộ trên đảo, đặc biệt vào tháng 8 và tháng 9. Mức lũ ở những vùng thấp ( hạ lưu Cửa Cạn ) từ 1-2 m, nguyên nhân là do lượng mưa lớn và sự tích tụ của nước mưa ( Viện quy hoạch Thủy lợi phía Nam, năm 2006 )
Trong khu vực dự án thường có lũ trong thời gian ngắn, thường là sau khi có lượng mưa lớn và chủ yếu tập trung ở các vùng thấp ở khu vực phía bắc dự án, quanh các thủy vực trong vùng dự án. Mức lũ tương đối thấp ( thường ≤ 1 m) và lũ thường chỉ diễn ra trong thời gian ngắn.
