Đảng Cộng sản Việt Nam là lực lượng lãnh đạo Nhà nước và xã hội
Sự lãnh đạo của Đảng Cộng sản Việt Nam đã được khẳng định là tất yếu trong tiến trình phát triển của cách mạng Việt Nam.
Cuối thế kỷ XIX, đầu thế kỷ XX, Việt Nam chìm trong đau khổ của một nước thuộc địa nửa phong kiến. Các phong trào yêu nước chống ngoại xâm nổ ra đều thất bại như: Phong trào Hàm Nghi, khởi nghĩa Yên Thế, cho đến các phong trào của Phan Châu Trinh, Phan Bội Châu... Trong tình cảnh bế tắc ấy, Đảng ra đời và đã giải quyết thành công cuộc khủng hoảng đường lối cứu nước, giải phóng dân tộc, đưa đất nước ta từ một đất nước nửa thuộc địa phong kiến thành một nước độc lập, người dân Việt Nam từ một người nô lệ lên địa vị của một người tự do, người làm chủ. Chỉ duy nhất Đảng Cộng sản mới làm được điều ấy.
Đảng Cộng sản Việt Nam cũng là đảng duy nhất đã lãnh đạo dân tộc Việt Nam đánh thắng hai đế quốc xâm lược là thực dân Pháp và đế quốc Mỹ, giành độc lập cho dân tộc, thống nhất đất nước, thu giang sơn về một mối.
Sau khi thống nhất đất nước, Đảng ta cũng chính là lực lượng lãnh đạo thành công sự nghiệp đổi mới, xây dựng và phát triển đất nước. Đảng đã giải quyết thành công cuộc khủng hoảng kinh tế-xã hội vào những năm 80 của thế kỷ XX, đưa đất nước vững bước trên con đường đẩy mạnh công nghiệp hóa - hiện đại hóa, hội nhập quốc tế để đến năm 2020 nước ta cơ bản trở thành nước công nghiệp theo hướng hiện đại, đến giữa thế kỷ XXI trở thành nước công nghiệp hiện đại theo định hướng xã hội chủ nghĩa.
Trong hơn 80 năm qua, kể từ khi Đảng ra đời, Đảng không giành quyền lực với bất kỳ đảng nào khác, mà Đảng ta đã được chính nhân dân tin tưởng, lựa chọn giao phó cho trọng trách lãnh đạo đất nước, dù trong nhiều thời kỳ, ở Việt Nam đã tồn tại các đảng khác. Năm 1946, ngoài Ðảng Cộng sản còn có sự tồn tại của hai đảng khác (Việt Nam Quốc dân Đảng, Việt Nam Cách mạng đồng minh hội); khi quân Tưởng rút khỏi Việt Nam, hai đảng đó cũng cuốn gói chạy theo. Có thời kỳ ngoài Ðảng Cộng sản Việt Nam, còn tồn tại Ðảng Dân chủ Việt Nam, Ðảng Xã hội Việt Nam. Cả hai đảng này đều thừa nhận vai trò lãnh đạo của Ðảng Cộng sản Việt Nam. Sau đó hai đảng này đã tuyên bố tự giải tán và chỉ còn Ðảng Cộng sản Việt Nam. Như vậy thực tế có thể thấy rõ, vai trò duy nhất lãnh đạo của Ðảng Cộng sản Việt Nam là một sản phẩm tự nhiên, mang tính khách quan của lịch sử đất nước.
Đảng Cộng sản Việt Nam không chỉ đại diện cho riêng giai cấp công nhân, mà còn là sự liên minh của giai cấp công nhân với giai cấp nông dân và đội ngũ trí thức. Như vậy, có thể thấy qua thực tiễn của quá trình hình thành và phát triển, Ðảng Cộng sản Việt Nam không chỉ là đội tiên phong của giai cấp công nhân, mà đồng thời còn là đội tiên phong của nhân dân lao động và dân tộc Việt Nam. Bởi lẽ, Ðảng Cộng sản Việt Nam ra đời là thành quả của sự kết hợp chủ nghĩa Mác - Lê-nin với phong trào công nhân và phong trào yêu nước. Ðây là nét sáng tạo đột phá phù hợp với đặc điểm Việt Nam của Chủ tịch Hồ Chí Minh. Trên thực tế, Ðảng ta ra đời, tồn tại và phát triển là vì lợi ích không chỉ của giai cấp công nhân mà còn vì lợi ích của nhân dân lao động và của toàn dân tộc.
Các thế lực thiếu thiện chí đã nhân việc sửa đổi Hiến pháp năm 1992 để đòi bỏ Điều 4 của Hiến pháp, nhằm mục đích thực hiện việc đa nguyên đa đảng, phá hoại sự lãnh đạo của Đảng, khối đại đoàn kết toàn dân mà không thấy rằng: Chế độ một đảng hay nhiều đảng là do thực tiễn của mỗi nước, do đặc điểm từng giai đoạn cách mạng quy định. Ở nhiều nước đa đảng nhưng thực chất chỉ có một hoặc hai đảng thay nhau cầm quyền.
Từ các cơ sở lý luận và thực tiễn trên, có thể khẳng định: Đảng Cộng sản Việt Nam tất yếu là lực lượng lãnh đạo Nhà nước và xã hội. Nhân dân Việt Nam đã thừa nhận Ðảng Cộng sản Việt Nam là đảng duy nhất lãnh đạo, vì vậy đa nguyên, đa đảng là không cần thiết đối với cách mạng Việt Nam.
