Đối với Việt Nam, xét về phương diện ba kết quả đầu ra lý tưởng trong quản lý tài chính công, cần thiết phải có một sự đánh giá có tính hệ thống dựa trên các chuẩn mực quốc tế. Theo đó, trong quá trình thực hiện cải cách quản lý tài chính công, Chính phủ Việt Nam đã giao Bộ Tài chính là cơ quan tham mưu cho Chính phủ thực hiện một công trình đánh giá hoạt động chi tiêu công và trách nhiệm giải trình tài chính (PEFA) trong năm 2010, và một lần nữa trong các năm 2012-2013.
