- Tổ chức thẩm định, công bố các quy chuẩn, tiêu chuẩn quốc gia liên quan đến việc sản xuất và sử dụng nguồn năng lượng tái tạo theo đề nghị của các Bộ, cơ quan liên quan.
- Ưu tiên cho các nghiên cứu liên quan đến phát triển và sử dụng tài nguyên năng lượng tái tạo trong phát triển của khoa học, công nghệ và phát triển công nghiệp công nghệ cao.
- Phối hợp với Bộ Công Thương triển khai các chương trình nghiên cứu, đẩy mạnh hoạt động khoa học - công nghệ trong lĩnh vực năng lượng tái tạo theo hướng khuyến khích tiếp thu, ứng dụng công nghệ tiên tiến của thế giới.
