Mọi ơn gọi Kitô hữu đều đến từ Thiên Chúa, đó là ơn huệ của Thiên Chúa. Tuy nhiên ơn gọi ấy không bao giờ được ban bên ngoài và tách biệt khỏi Giáo Hội, nhưng luôn luôn ở trong Giáo hội và qua Giáo Hội. Giáo hội được Chúa giao phó cho nhiệm vụ tuyển chọn và đào tạo ơn gọi. Giáo hội – “người sinh ra và giáo dục các ơn gọi” – có nhiệm vụ phân định ơn gọi và sự phù hợp của các ứng sinh vào tác vụ linh mục.
