Chất thải rắn đô thị cũng là một nguyên nhân gây ô nhiễm môi trường đất nếu không được quản lý thu gom và kiểm soát đúng quy trình kỹ thuật.
Chất thải rắn đô thị rất phức tạp, nó bao gồm các thức ăn thừa, rác thải nhà bếp, làm vườn , đồ dùng hỏng , gỗ, thủy tinh, nhựa, các loại giấy thải,các loạirác đường phố bụi, bùn, lá cây…

Nước rỉ từ các hầm ủ và bãi chôn lấp có tải lượng ô nhiễm chất hữu cơ rất cao ( thông qua chỉ số BOD và COD) cũng như các kim loại nặng như Cu , Zn, Pb, Al ,Fe, Cd , Hg và cả các chất như P ,N, … cũng cao. Nước rỉ này sẽ ngấm xuống đất gây ô nhiễm đất và nước ngầm.
Ô nhiễm môi trường đất còn có thể do bùn cống rãnh của hệ thống thoát nước của thành phố là mà thành phần các chất hữu cơ , vô cơ, kim loại tạo nên các hỗn hợp các phức chất và đơn chất khó phân hủy.
