Cả Gear S2 và Apple Watch đều hỗ trợ một số chức năng tinh chỉnh, thiết lập ngay trên thiết bị. Nhược điểm của phần mềm quản lý Apple Watch dành cho iPhone là tiện ích này chỉ hỗ trợ phiên bản iOS 8.2 trở lên, do đó bắt buộc người dùng phải nâng cấp lên iOS mới nếu muốn quản lý Apple Watch. Riêng với Galaxy Gear S2 thì tiện ích Samsung Gear App hỗ trợ cho Android 4.2 trở lên. Thực tế sử dụng đồng hồ này với smartphone Note 5 thì mọi tính năng hoạt động rất tốt, tuy nhiên khi kết đôi với một smartphone Android khác dùng Android 4.4 thì việc nhận thông báo, cuộc gọi từ điện thoại chập chờn, không ổn định.
