Tổng Công ty Khí Việt Nam “là công ty TNHH một thành viên 100% vốn nhà nước, đơn vị thành viên của Tập đoàn Dầu khí Việt Nam (Tập đoàn) được thành lập ngày 20/9/1990 trên cơ sở Ban quản lý công trình Dầu khí Vũng Tàu với tên gọi ban đầu là Công ty Khí đốt với nhiệm vụ thu gom, vận chuyển, tàng trữ, kinh doanh khí và sản phẩm khí. Dự kiến tháng 10/2010 PV Gas chuyển sang hoạt động” theo mô hình công ty cổ phần.
Hiện nay các hoạt động của PV Gas gồm có:
 Thu gom, vận chuyển, tàng trữ, chế biến khí và sản phẩm khí;
 Phân phối, kinh doanh khí và các sản phẩm khí khô, khí thiên nhiên hóa lỏng (LNG), khí thiên nhiên nén (CNG), khí dầu mỏ hóa lỏng (LPG), khí ngưng tụ (Condensate); kinh doanh vật tư, thiết bị, hóa chất trong lĩnh vực chế biến và sử dụng khí và các sản phẩm khí; kinh doanh dịch vụ cảng, kho, bãi;
 Đầu tư cơ sở hạ tầng, hệ thống phân phối sản phẩm khí khô, khí lỏng;
 Phân phối LPG từ các nhà máy lọc hóa dầu và các nguồn khác của Tập đoàn;
 Tư vấn thiết kế, lập dự án đầu tư, thực hiện đầu tư xây dựng, quản lý, vận hành, bảo dưỡng, sửa chữa các công trình, dự án khí và liên quan đến khí;
 Nghiên cứu ứng dụng trong lĩnh vực khí, thiết kế, cải tạo công trình khí;
 Cung cấp các dịch vụ trong lĩnh vực khí, cải tạo bảo dưỡng sửa chữa động cơ, lắp đặt thiết bị chuyển đổi cho phương tiện giao thông vận tải và nông, lâm, ngư nghiệp sử dụng nhiên liệu khí; dịch vụ vận tải của các phương tiện có sử dụng nhiên liệu khí;
 Xuất nhập khẩu các sản phẩm khí khô, khí LNG, CNG, LPG, Condensate;
 Nhập khẩu vật tư, thiết bị và phương tiện phục”vụ ngành khí;
 Đầu tư tài chính, mua bán doanh nghiệp khí trong và ngoài nước;
 Đầu tư kinh doanh bất động sản.
