Mưa acid sẽ trở thành vấn đề lớn đối với Việt Nam trong tương lai.
Hai nhân tố chính gây mưa acid là SO2 và NOx trong không khí. Bên cạnh đó vì Việt Nam là một nước đang phát triển với nền kinh tế, công nghiệp đang trên đà phát triển không tránh khỏi phát sinh khí thải điển hình được nói đến là SO2 trong quá trình lao động và sản xuất. Việt Nam vẫn còn là nước chưa phát triển toàn diện vì thế việc quản lí phát sinh khí thải cũng như các điều kiện kinh tế vẫn chưa đáp ứng được viecj xử lí khí thải một cách triệt để. Nếu sự giám sát quá trình phát sinh khí thải long lẽo thì mưa acid sẽ là 1 vấn đề lớn đối với nước ta. Bởi vì:
- Mưa axit ảnh hưởng xấu tới các thuỷ vực (ao, hồ). Các dòng chảy do mưa axit đổ vào hồ, ao sẽ làm độ pH của hồ, ao giảm đi nhanh chóng, các sinh vật trong hồ, ao suy yếu hoặc chết hoàn toàn.
- Mưa axit ảnh hưởng xấu tới đất do nước mưa ngầm xuống đất làm tăng độ chua của đất, hoà tan các nguyên tố trong đất cần thiết cho cây như canxi (Ca), magiê (Mg),... làm suy thoái đất, cây cối kém phát triển.

- Mưa axit ảnh hưởng đến hệ thực vật trên trái đất, làm cho khả năng quang hợp của cây giảm, cho năng suất thấp

- Mưa axit còn phá huỷ các vật liệu làm bằng kim loại như sắt, đồng, kẽm,... làm giảm tuổi thọ các công trình xây dựng, làm lở loét bề mặt bằng đá của các công trình xây dựng, di tích lịch sử

- Đối với con người, mưa axit không gây ra tác động trực tiếp như với các loại thực vật hay sinh vật, nhưng các loại hạt bụi axit khô thì có thể gây ra các bệnh về hen suyễn, viêm phế quản, bệnh hô hấp và bệnh tim
