Tôi đã viết khá nhiều bài cho Đà Lạt, thế nhưng còn có một nơi nữa ở Việt Nam mà tôi cũng dành một tình cảm đặc biệt không kém, đó là Huế. Thế nhưng cho mãi đến bây giờ tôi vẫn chưa viết nhiều về nơi này, vẫn chưa có một bài nào tôi dành riêng cho Huế, thành phố thơ mộng trầm mặc bên dòng sông Hương.

Dẫu cho đối với 2 nơi tôi đều dành những tình cảm đặc biệt, thế nhưng cách tôi yêu Huế khác với cách tôi yêu Đà Lạt. Tôi đến Huế khá nhiều lần, tuy nhiên trừ ra những lần đi công tác – chỉ toàn đến giải quyết công việc xong lại đi ngay và trừ luôn cả những lần dừng chân khi đi ngang qua Huế, thì tổng cộng tôi cũng chỉ đến Huế có 4 lần. Và mỗi lần đều gắn với những kỷ niệm.

“Trầm mặc” – đó là từ mà ta thường nghe nhắc đến mỗi khi ai đó nói về Huế, nhưng chỉ những ai đã đến Huế, cảm nhận được cái không khí nơi đây mới thực sự hiểu hết cái ý nghĩa của từ này. Còn nhớ lần đầu tiên khi tôi đến Huế, đó là vào một buổi chiều, trên đường từ sân bay Phú Bài về, ngồi trên taxi nhìn ra ngoài, lúc đó là khoảng tầm 4-5h, cái giờ mà nếu ở Sài Gòn mọi người đang chen chúc nhau trên những con đường đầy khói bụi và tiếng ồn… Nhưng ở Huế lúc ấy, không khí yên bình nên thơ đến lạ, cũng có xe máy nhưng không nhiều, bóng các em nữ sinh đạp xe về, con đường Lê Lợi hai bên rợp bóng cây, tôi ngẩn ngơ sao thành phố này yên bình đến thế.

Rồi buổi tối, Huế ngủ sớm lắm, khách sạn nơi tôi ở cũng nằm ngay trên con đường Lê Lợi, đây có thể gọi là một trong những con đường trung tâm của Huế, thế mà chỉ cần bước ra một chút thôi, chỉ mới 8h mà không khí vắng lặng cứ như ở Sài Gòn vào lúc 12h đêm vậy.


Huế là vậy, lúc nào cũng nhẹ nhàng và đằm thắm. Nhưng nếu chỉ có vậy chưa hẳn tôi sẽ yêu Huế nhiều như thế.

Tôi yêu lịch sử, từ nhỏ tôi đã thích tìm hiểu và đọc sách về lịch sử nước ta, đặc biệt là giai đoạn Tây Sơn và sau này là vương triều nhà Nguyễn. Huế có một lịch sử lâu đời, nếu không tính ngày Huyền Trân Công Chúa ra đi để đổi lấy vùng đất này từ những năm 1300, xem như không tính khoảng thời gian này vì tuy đã thuộc về nước Việt nhưng lúc đó Huế cũng chỉ như 1 tỉnh lỵ, không có gì đặc biệt, vậy bỏ qua giai đoạn này thì lịch sử của Huế vẫn rất lâu đời. Từ những ngày đầu khi chúa Nguyễn Hoàng chọn vùng đất này để lập nghiệp vào đầu những năm 1600, sau đó năm ~1650 chúa Nguyễn Phúc Nguyên chọn chính khu vực làng Kim Long ngày nay để dựng phủ rồi dần dần phát triển trở thành thủ phủ để cai quản cả xứ Đàng Trong.

Gần 400 năm, trong đó có hơn 200 năm là nơi đóng đô của các vương triều Nguyễn và Tây Sơn, làm cho mỗi địa danh ở nơi đây đều ít nhiều gắn liền với lịch sử. Tuy không phải là 1000 năm như Thăng Long Hà Nội, nhưng vì Huế là nơi sau cùng của các vương triều, lại là những vương triều rực rỡ nhất so với các đời khác, nên các công trình, các dấu tích xưa tuy đã bị tàn phá nhiều nhưng so về số lượng vẫn nhiều hơn hết thảy những nơi khác.

Mỗi lần trở về Huế tôi như được bơi trong cái hồ nước mà mình yêu thích, hãy tin tôi, nếu ta đứng trước Phu Văn Lâu thì ta chỉ thấy nó là một toà nhà nhỏ bình thường nằm ven đường, nhưng nếu chúng ta biết từ thời Gia Long, đây là nơi dán các thông báo của triều đình cho cả kinh thành đến đọc, nếu ta biết rằng ngày xưa mỗi khi qua lại nơi này thì ai cũng phải cởi nón xuống ngựa, biết nơi này ngày xưa từng tổ chức các cuộc đấu giữa voi và hổ cho vua xem và nếu ta biết đây là nơi mà Trần Cao Vân đã ngồi câu cá để chờ gặp vua Duy Tân bàn việc khởi nghĩa… hẳn chúng ta sẽ thấy nơi này hay hơn nhiều biết bao nhiêu so với chỉ là một ngôi nhà bình thường. Cứ thế tất cả mọi công trình của Huế đều mang trong mình nhiều yếu tố lịch sử mà nếu biết chúng ta sẽ vô cùng hứng thú khi xem.

Vì vậy mà, nếu bạn chưa đi Huế, hãy tìm đọc một số sách về nhà Nguyễn trước, chuyến đi của bạn sẽ hấp dẫn hơn rất nhiều. Nếu đã đến Huế rồi và chưa đọc nhiều về lịch sử, cũng nên tìm đọc, và quay trở lại Huế, bạn sẽ cảm nhận Huế một cách rất khác.

Chẳng hiểu trùng hợp thế nào, đa số những lần tôi đến Huế đều vào mùa mưa, cái mùa mà chẳng mấy ai mặn mà đến Huế. Vì mưa ở Huế thì buồn lắm, mưa ở Huế không tính bằng buổi bằng ngày, mà bằng tuần bằng tháng. Đến Huế vào mùa mưa thì cứ thế mà mặc áo mưa xông ra mà đi chơi thôi, đừng mong đến khi tạnh mưa mới đi. Nhưng cũng vì vậy mà Huế trong tôi lại đặc biệt, Huế gắn liền với mưa. Dĩ nhiên là Huế còn có mùa nắng, nhưng trong tôi, Huế chỉ gắn liền với mưa, và nghĩ về Huế là tôi lại tưởng tượng ra cái khung cảnh dòng sông Hương mịt mờ trong màn mưa, cảnh những con đường ướt đẫm nước mưa trong Đại Nội.

Tôi yêu mưa, mặc cho ai bảo là sến, là giống con gái… Và vì vậy tôi càng thêm yêu Huế. Trong 4 lần tôi đến với Huế (trong đó có 2 lần tôi đến Huế một mình), cả 4 lần cũng lại vô tình hết 3 lần là vào mùa mưa. Huế lại trầm mặc và thanh bình lắm, nhớ hoài cái hôm tôi ngồi ở chùa Thiên Mụ, ngồi trên vách tường ven chùa, một bên là dòng sông Hương trắng xóa như bức hình tôi chụp bên dưới và nhìn về bên tay phải là cổng tam quan của chùa, nơi tôi đã cùng cô ấy ngồi trú mưa. Giờ thì tất cả đã trở thành những kỷ niệm đẹp
