Đây cũng là mô hình có thể áp dụng để bảo tồn rùa Hoàn Kiếm.

Với hy vọng tìm ra những cá thể khác còn sống sót trong tự nhiên, các nhà bảo tồn cần tiếp tục tiến hành khảo sát dọc các con sông lớn ở miền bắc Việt Nam nhằm nghiên cứu thêm về loài này. Nhóm nghiên cứu phối hợp với ngư dân Đồng Mô duy trì tìm kiếm trên hồ, đồng thời nghiên cứu và bảo vệ cá thể đã được ghi nhận. Hoạt động cấp thiết hiện nay là bảo tồn môi trường sống cho loài rùa mai mềm này. Hồ Đồng Mô cần được bảo vệ và thành lập khu bảo tồn sinh cảnh cho loài (SHCA).
