Việc định nghĩa CSR cũng khá đa dạng và phức tạp. Môt định nghĩa ví dụ "CSR là trách nhiệm của doanh nghiệp trong xã hội mà doanh nghiệp đó hoạt động kinh doanh. CSR giúp gắn kết toàn bộ hê thống doanh nghiệp để đảm bảo doanh nghiệp hành xử đúng giá trị , văn hóa trong hoạch định chiến lược và hoạt động thường ngày đối với xã hội.
