Thực tế cho thấy, thương hiệu của một doanh nghiệp (mang tính chất tài sản tư nhân) khi bị mất, thường chủ sở hữu đều có phản ứng nhanh và dứt khoát. Còn với các thương hiệu mang tính chất tài sản chung (thương hiệu quốc gia, thương hiệu các hiệp hội nghề nghiệp...) thì việc đăng ký hay bảo hộ đều xử lý chậm. Đa phần do là tài sản chung, nên việc tập hợp các doanh nghiệp để tiến hành đăng ký gặp nhiều khó khăn. Khi doanh nghiệp Việt Nam còn loay hoay với bài toán nội tại thì thương hiệu đã được đăng ký bảo hộ ở nước ngoài.
