Sau hơn 20 năm đổi mới, Trường Đại học Kinh tế quốc dân đã xây dựng được một đội ngũ giảng viên có trình độ, giàu kinh nghiệm, và từng bước hướng đến chuẩn khu vực và quốc tế. Với đội ngũ hơn 1.200 cán bộ, giáo viên, Nhà trường có 50 chuyên ngành đào tạo ở bậc đại học và hơn 20 chuyên ngành đào tạo ở bậc thạc sỹ và tiến sỹ, với quy mô đào tạo khoảng 50.000 sinh viên.
Hiện nay, Trường Đại học Kinh tế quốc dân đang thực hiện chiến lược xây dựng Nhà trường theo hướng đa ngành, đa lĩnh vực, mở rộng hợp tác quốc tế, trở thành trường đại học đẳng cấp trong khu vực. Thực hiện chiến lược đó, Nhà trường chú ý mở rộng hợp tác quốc tế, hội nhập với nền giáo dục khu vực và thế giới. Tính đến nay, Trường Đại học có các chương trình hợp tác đào tạo và nghiên cứu với trên 100 trường đại học và tổ chức giáo dục danh tiếng của hơn 50 quốc gia trên thế giới.
