Lý Thánh Tông (1023 - 1072) là vị vua thứ ba của nhà Lý. Ông tên thật là Lý Nhật Tôn, là con trưởng của Lý Thái Tông, mẹ là Kim Thiên thái hậu Mai Thị. Không chỉ nổi tiếng là một minh quân có nhiều đức độ trong lịch sử Việt Nam, ông còn là một nhà quân sự lỗi lạc.

Trong thời kỳ trị vì của vua cha Lý Thái Tông, Lý Nhật Tôn đã nhiều lần cầm quân đi dẹp loạn, bảo vệ biên cương và lập nhiều chiến công, được sử sách ghi nhận như dẹp bạo loạn ở Lâm Tây năm 1037, khi mới 15 tuổi, đánh châu Văn năm 1042, châu Ái năm 1043.
