Tương truyền, sau khi vua Lý Thái Tổ dời đô từ Hoa Lư về Thăng Long, nhân dân địa phương đã xây dựng đền thờ để tưởng nhớ công đức của vua Đinh Tiên Hoàng. Lễ hội diễn ra từ ngày 8 - 10 tháng 3 (Âm lịch), gồm những nghi thức chính sau: Lễ mở cửa đền,Lễ hội dâng hương...Ngoài các nghi lễ tôn giáo, tín ngưỡng, Lễ hội còn có các sinh hoạt văn hóa mang tính giải trí.Lễ hội chứa đựng nhiều thông tin quan trọng, góp phần làm rõ lịch sử Việt Nam, khẳng định ý chí dân tộc qua từng thời kỳ lịch sử.Với những giá trị lịch sử, văn hóa của lễ hội,nhà nước đã quyết định đưa Lễ hội Đền vua Đinh vào Danh mục di sản văn hóa phi vật thể quốc gia năm 2014.
