Có ý kiến cho rằng thời gian ở trường của học sinh nên được dành chủ yếu cho hoạt động học tập và nâng cao kiến thức. Thế nhưng phần đông lại hướng đến sự phát triển toàn diện của học sinh cả về thể chất lẫn tinh thần. Do đó, hoạt động thể dục thể thao được coi là một phần không thể thiếu trong hoạt động ở trường của học sinh.
