Ngân hàng TMCP Đệ nhất được thành lập theo Giấy phép hoạt động số 0033/NH–GP ngày 27 tháng 04 năm 1993 do Ngân hàng Nhà nước Việt Nam cấp và giấy phép thành lập số 534/GP-UB do Uỷ ban nhân dân TP .HCM cấp ngày 13 tháng 5 năm 1993. Trong bối cảnh hoạt động theo khung pháp lý cho ngân hàng thương mai tại Việt Nam, ngày 02/8/1993 Ngân hàng TMCP Đệ Nhất đã chính thức khai trương và đi vào hoạt động.
Tính đến 30/09/2011, Ficombank có Vốn điều lệ đạt 3.000.000.000.000 VNĐ. Kết quả hoạt động kinh doanh đã “phá” chỉ tiêu về tổng tài sản khi đạt hơn 17.100 tỷ đồng, vượt 128% so kế hoạch. Mạng lưới hoạt động gồm 26 điểm giao dịch tại TP.Hồ Chí Minh, Hà Nội và một số thành phố lớn.
