Đại học Harvard đào tạo miễn phí nâng chất giáo dục Mỹ
Khóa sau đại học về giáo dục của ĐH Harvard vừa đưa ra chương trình đào tạo mới nhằm cải thiện chất lượng đội ngũ giáo viên cho các trường công lập của Mỹ.
Theo tờ Washington Post, đây là chương trình miễn phí trị giá 18 triệu USD được ủng hộ từ một số nhà tài trợ ẩn danh với mong muốn góp phần phát triển nền giáo dục nước nhà.
Ông James E. Ryan, trưởng khoa sau đại học về giáo dục của Harvard, cho biết chương trình được lập ra với ba mục tiêu chính: nâng cao chất lượng giáo viên, tạo ra hình mẫu để các nơi khác có thể học hỏi và tạo điều kiện cho sinh viên Harvard tiếp cận nghề giảng dạy.
Ông Ryan hi vọng từ chương trình, các sinh viên Harvard có thể nhìn nhận giảng dạy như là một nghề nghiệp, sau khi tốt nghiệp họ có thể giảng dạy ở các trường THCS hay THPT với các môn toán, khoa học, lịch sử, tiếng Anh... hoặc có thể tích lũy thêm tín chỉ để lấy bằng thạc sĩ giáo dục.
Khóa học kéo dài ba năm với khung chương trình được thiết kế chặt chẽ, trong đó các nghiên cứu sinh sẽ được học những phương pháp giảng dạy từ các chuyên gia đầu ngành, thời gian thực giảng cũng được kéo dài hơn dưới sự giám sát của những cố vấn trực tiếp. Tuy nhiên sau khi hoàn thành khóa học, các nghiên cứu sinh buộc phải cam kết giảng dạy trong vòng 5-7 năm.
Dự kiến tháng 1-2016 sẽ có hơn 20 sinh viên các khóa năm cuối hệ đại học của Harvard tham gia khóa học này. Bước đầu họ sẽ được học về các phương pháp giảng dạy và sẽ được người cố vấn hướng dẫn thực tập ở các trường công lập.
Năm đầu tiên của khóa học giảng dạy, nghiên cứu sinh được phân bổ về các trường, thực tập bán thời gian và chịu trách nhiệm 2-3 lớp/ngày. Họ sẽ phải làm việc với cố vấn trực tiếp tại trường, có thể nhận sự hỗ trợ từ xa của những chuyên gia và tham gia các lớp trực tuyến của Harvard.

Mặc dù hiện có 11.000 thành viên của TFA đang giảng dạy trong 35 bang khắp cả nước, nhưng với thời gian đào tạo hạn chế, TFA bị chỉ trích là chưa đem lại các giáo viên đủ tiêu chuẩn cho nền giáo dục Mỹ.
Với kỳ vọng sẽ đào tạo nên một đội ngũ giáo viên chất lượng cao được đào tạo chuyên sâu, chương trình mới của Harvard nếu thành công sẽ là một hình mẫu lý tưởng được khuyến khích nhân rộng trên thế giới.
