Dù đề cập đến đề tài triết học, tâm linh hoặc đơn thuần là những cảm xúc thường nhật ở mỗi con người, Tolstoy đều dẫn giải chúng với giọng văn cô đọng, giản dị, dễ hiểu và lôi cuốn. Trong bản dịch, dịch Đỗ Tư Nghĩa còn đan xen những cước chú của chính ông về các quan điểm của Tolstoy. Dịch giả Đỗ Tư Nghĩa sinh năm 1947 tại Quảng Trị. Ông tốt nghiệp môn Triết ở Đại học Văn khoa Huế và hiện sống ở Đà Lạt. Sau cuốn Suy niệm mỗi ngày, ông chuẩn bị giới thiệu đến độc giả các ấn phẩm dịch: Nghệ thuật sống - Epictetis, Tự thú của Lev Tolstoy, Những suy niệm của Marcus Aurelius.
