Gia nhập AEC cũng đồng nghĩa với việc mở rộng thương mại nội khối và đầu tư trong khu vực ASEAN, vì thế sẽ làm thay đổi cơ cấu kinh tế, thay đổi cơ cấu việc làm và cơ cấu lao động. Trên thị trường lao động sẽ có sự chuyển dịch về lao động trong nước, giữa các khu vực kinh tế, các địa phương, các ngành nghề, các doanh nghiệp và chuyển dịch lao động từ Việt Nam tới các nước trong khu vực và ngược lại. Đây là sự dịch chuyển theo quy luật thị trường từ nơi có thu nhập thấp đến nơi có thu nhập cao, từ nơi có ít cơ hội việc làm đến nơi có nhiều cơ hội việc làm, từ nơi có điều kiện lao động kém đến nơi có điều kiện lao động tốt hơn. Đây là sự dịch chuyển hợp lý, mang lại hiệu quả kinh tế và lợi ích cho người lao động, cho doanh nghiệp và cho toàn bộ nền kinh tế.
