1…TẾT ở Việt Nam là những ngày lễ hội lớn cho cả nước. Những ngày ấy mọi xóm làng, nhà nhà, ai ai cũng nghỉ làm việc và vui vầy đoàn tụ. Ngày tết có tính thiêng liêng và là một dịp làm mới lại mọi việc. Những ngày ấy việc mùa màng thường xong xuôi, dân làng làm lễ tạ ơn trời đất. TẾT mọi người chia sẻ với nhau những niềm vui ấm áp, tặng nhau những món quà để cầu chúc cho nhau một năm mới vạn sự như ý và còn rất nhiều phong tục có ý nghĩa khác.
Chính thức TẾT là ngày lễ gồm ba ngày đầu tiên của năm mới âm lịch, nhưng thật ra ta ăn mừng năm mới lâu hơn thế nữa. Giây phút thiêng liêng nhất là đêm giao thừa, là lúc 0 giờ bắt đầu bước qua năm mới. Mọi gia đình Việt Nam đều có cuốn lịch tính theo ngày ta, ngày theo mặt trăng (Lunar calendar) để theo dõi ngày giỗ và TẾT. Thường thường TẾT rơi vào khoảng giữa ngày 21 tháng 1 và ngày 20 tháng 2, giữa độ mùa đông và mùa xuân ở châu Mỹ.
Ý NGHĨA CỦA NGÀY TẾT
Người Việt ăn mừng TẾT với niềm tin thiêng liêng TẾT là ngày đoàn tụ, là ngày làm mới, là ngày tạ ơn và là ngày của hy vọng.
Ngày Đoàn Tụ
- TẾT luôn luôn là ngày đoàn tụ của mọi gia đình. Dù ai buôn bán, làm việc hay đi học ở xa, họ thường cố gắng để dành tiền và thời giờ để về ăn TẾT với gia đình. Đó là nỗi mong mỏi của tất cả mọi người, người đi xa cũng như người ở nhà đều mong dịp TẾT gặp mặt và quây quần cùng gia đình.

Ngày Làm Mới
- TẾT là ngày đầu tiên trong năm mới, mọi người có cơ hội ngồi ôn lại việc cũ và làm mới mọi việc. Việc làm mới có thể về hình thức như dọn dẹp, quét vôi, sơn sửa trang trí lại nhà cửa. Người mình tin rằng những ngày TẾT vui vẻ đầu năm sẽ báo hiệu một năm mới tốt đẹp sắp tới.
TẾT là sinh nhật của tất cả mọi người, ai cũng thêm một tuổi vì thế câu nói mở miệng khi gặp nhau là mừng nhau thêm một tuổi. Người lớn có tục mừng tuổi cho trẻ nhỏ và các cụ già để chúc các cháu hay ăn chóng lớn và ngoan ngoãn, học giỏi; còn các cụ thì sống lâu và mạnh khoẻ để con cháu được nhờ phúc.
Ngày của lạc quan và hy vọng
