Annuloaortic ectasia is symmetric dilation of the aortic root and ascending aorta with effacement of the sinotubular junction. The ascending aorta has a pear shaped appearance and the arch is of normal caliber (Figure 9). It most commonly occurs with Marfan syndrome, but it can also be seen in other conditions such as Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, homocystinuria and osteogenesis imperfecta or be idiopathic.
